I have a basset hound who is about 6 years old. We got him from the pound about 4 years ago. He is outside for most of the day but at night I let him inside and he sleeps in my room. He is usually really good about whining if he needs to go outside and he usually always sleeps through the night. Well, about 2 weeks ago he started waking me up and he peed once.I just figured he had had an emergency or something so I was ok with it. I went out of town this past weekend and my mom took care of him. I found out that he peed again. Then last night he didn't bother to whine at me to wake me up and there was a big wet spot in front of my dresser. Does anybody have any ideas why he's started doing this?Because he wants to show how much he owns you.Geez I don't know. Maybe he has a urinary tract infection..It could be any number of situations, but most likely wants attention of some kind. If he's not waking you now, it means he's formed a new habit because the behaviour was accepted before. Depending on the size of the wet spot, this may just be urine marking - in which case the reasons why multiply a bunch more. Talk to your vet, or do an online search for some pet-owner forums to help answer your questions.

http://en.allexperts.com/q/Dogs-701/2008...when things get old they dont work so well....give him a mat in your room maybe hell use it....sounds like a good dog thoughHe either has a bladder infection or he is marking his territory. He might be mad at you. I know when we brought home our puppy my doxie willow who NEVER had accidents would purposly poop and pee in the living room because she was mad about the puppy. Luckily she got over it and dosen't do that anymore. Have you changed anything in his routine? Maybe since its getting colder out he just doesn't want to be outside anymore so he goes potty in your room so he wont have to go out.i think you should train it more and teach it to pee in the right placemaybe cause he hates u lolYour dog is getting older and it probably had a hard time before it came to you, it may be losing bladder control which is somthing that happens to older dogs.
However he may have just got into a bad habit, it's getting colder now (well here in the UK anyway) and he/she may not want to go out in the cold.
Else it may have just been drinking excessively recently. Down punnish him/her, it's probably outsider their controll, and an angry owner is the last thing a dog needs. : )It could be a medical condition,
However he has now marked that spot with his urine and will continue to use it as will other animal guests in your house.
Animals do have these spates sometimes when they are upset with you as well
I would not rule out medical issues, take him to the vet..Your dog is getting old, cant hold his bladder.
Or
You dont hear him whining, youre a heavy sleeper/bad owner.
Or
Your dog just plain dosnt like you, i hardly know you, but id pee in your room if i had the chance.Trust me both of my dogs have been doing the same thing. and It's kind of annoying at times. lol. Heck my little puppy just did it right now. grrr. Anyways, I think you might want to retrain him or something. And also it might just be that he is getting old. I know six is still young but considering all options this might be the case. I mean I understand with my older dog that he pees and poos in the house because he's getting old. he's like 15. But we still try to get him to pee outside. as far as the puppy goes...well..I kept on trying to tell my dad to train him and everything so i'm training him right now. Anyways, I think just try to show your dog you don't like it and your not okay with it.Your dog might have a bladder infection. My dog does the same thing.
I,took her to the vet for some pills. God Luck!dogs pee where there is a weird/strange odor
maybe your room stinks. Usually dogs dont pee where theyve been taught not to, but if he had an emergency, and you didnt make a big show to tell him NO BAD DOG then he will think that its ok to pee in your room. after all, why bother whining and barking and pacing and holding it trying to wake you up to let him out if he can just pee when he has to? Its much easier for him to just pee and go back to sleep. You will probably have to re-train him not to pee inside. but dont worry, he'll catch on quicker than he did the first time because he will remember. hes just confused. like when you give kids sweets over the holidays and then they dont understand why they cant have them when the holidays are over. hope this helped. good luck.well, first of all you need to make sure you take him out to do his stuff, and if he does it in your room again give him a pasting on his a**,but with Love!! :)There could be something wrong with him. Take him to get a check up.
When one of my dogs had puppies, the other dogs started peeing and stuff in the house because they were mad that they didn't get as much attention. Your dog may be mad at you.i pee on my dog when he pees in the house. Most likely, the blame will rest on you and the family. I make certain each and every night, my two dogs are out for a final bed directly before bedtime. I did notice my 4 yr old Doberman with small pee stains in her bed. Turns out she has an incontinence problem and is now on medication and special food which has resolved this. If you are taking the dog out right before bed and he is continuing, you should contact the vet. He could have a urinary tract infection or has become incontinent.he wants to do youI would take him to the vet...there could be something seriously wrong with him.not to be mean or anything but maybe ur beeing unice to ur dog.cuz he liiiiiikes yoo. Did you tell your dog your voting for Obama?because your the SHlT.Once they have peed once on a spot, dogs are likely to pee there again and again. It has to do with an instinct to mark territory, at one level. In your case, unless your dog got the idea that he needed to mark his territory all of a sudden, I think his accident simply provided a "scent trigger" to keep doing it.
I'd check with a vet to see if perhaps he has a urinary tract or bladder problem. He might be diabetic. Something physical may have started the problem. If so, it needs to be cleared up first in order to correct the peeing problem.
Has he had a diet change?
Do your best to clean up all the odor, but from my understanding, the if your dog's sense of smell is normal, he will still be able to smell it. At this point, you want to make peeing outside more rewarding than peeing inside.
Inconvenient, but make sure you set your alarm and get up every so often in the night to take him out to pee, and praise him and give him a treat outside to reinforce the behavior. And if he whines at you in the night, give him a treat before taking him out, too.
You might also consider crating him, to contain the mess. If he hasn't been crated, or doesn't care for it, you can use treats to get him to like it. I once had a doggie-guest that hated crates, but I equally hated having my doors scratched on and other mischief done by a dog left unattended for 8 hours while I slept. I used treats and the dog began to REALLY like the crate after a while, and began to resign himself to not being in a people-bed at night.
You might also pay attention to when he is drinking water and what nights he has accidents. You may be able to minimize the problem with timing his food/water access. Have you ben pissing him off?your doggy is growing old and has started jacking off while you r sleeping or away :>() Your dog could be peeing in your room for many reasons. One he just might be trying to tell you something. I babysat a dog and she had a cage to sleep in. When my dog gets mad she goes to that spot and pees. On the other hand I had a mutt that started peeing more than usual. It was just before the pet food problem. He just peed and had never done a job inside. I just thought he was getting older and took him out more. About a week later he laid down and was obviously in pain. . it was kidney problems from the dog biscuits from WM is my best guess because no other food was on the list of recalled pet foods.. He died the next day. . .Whenever you notice something different about your dog, take him to the vet for tests. An increase in peeing is a sign of kidney failure and it can be caused by many different things. Do not feed dogs grapes or nuts, the cumulative effects cause kidney damage. Good luck with your dog.
I have the answer. My beloved Barney 12yrs old died. But his buddie Sparky started doing what you describe, I took her to the vet to see if she had a bladder infection and it turned out no. So as the peeing continued, the vet said it was leaky bladder, older dogs are prone. So pet meds gets my business now $43 /mn for pronin 40mg every 6 hrs. I give it to her in peanut butter and a little bread. Ps: to get a urine sample from your dog use an old pie plate and slide it under her then put urine in a clean container and put lid on. Take that not dog to vet first. He's doing it because he's a dog.
You should toss him outside.
If not, have fun sopping up piss.#If you have any other info about this subject , Please add it free.# |
