Im still having trouble wit my puppy he still not getting the thing about going outside 2 go potty what can?

  • I do to get him 2 tell me that he has 2 go an sometimes he goes pees out there but then come right back in an poop in my house what am I doing wron can any one give me lots of tips I can try He is 13 weeks old ...

  • Don't let him back into the house until he poops, if he just ate.

My dog is 12 weeks and sometimes he'll go pee and then try to go back in the house. I'll stay outside a few minutes longer (10 minutes) and he eventually goes. Then he's so happy, because I make a big fuss over it and give him treats.

  • when he poops, you stick his nose in it, tell him "NO" and put him outside
it might take a few times but he will get the point pretty quick

  • your puppy is very young. He will have accidents and it will take him time to get used to it. Just keep taking him out every hour or so, immediately after eating, and immediately upon waking. If he goes in the house, do not correct him unless you catch him in the act. When you take him outside, give really good praise if he pees or poo, like he just pooped gold. Make a huge, happy deal out of it. In time, he will get it. Just be patient. Leaving him outside all day is not training him!

  • I would recommend taking him out often and praising him when he goes outside. Remember, puppies don't have the ability for a while to control the urge to relieve themselves, so about every hour and a half is a good start.

Another great method to add to that is crate training. I've found that many of the dogs that get adopted from the humane society I work at do extremely well when they get crate trained. Here's an excellent website about how to do it: http://dogs.about.com/cs/basictraining/p...

The only requirements for crates are they need to be big enough for your dog to sit, stand, lie down, and turn around. You don't want the puppy to have enough room to potty on one side of the kennel and lay on the other.

Good luck! Hope this works out for you!

EDIT: I'm not sure what breed of dog we're dealing with here, but if he'll grow to be a large size dog, you'll want to get a crate the size of the adult dog of the breed, just make sure you get a divider to block off a portion of it.

  • If he is peeing and then ''going'' when you bring him in, he still has to ''go'' and you are bringing him in too early. At his age he will need to ''go'' within 5 minutes of eating or drinking. I house break my pups before they leave me for new homes at 7 to 10 weeks old. Put him in a crate over night and let him out, using the same door every time and tell him ''outside''. Then tell him to ''hurry up'' and only use those words for ''going''. In time he'll understand it means to ''go''. Tell him what a wonderful dog he is when he does it outside. This all takes time and the breeder should have done it.

  • He's still awfully young to be expecting him to understand. I assume you are crate training him? If not, start immediately...you'll have the best results with that. Don't leave him outside-that will set you back months in training (allowing him to go when and where he pleases? How does your friend think this will help?!) Keep him on a leash indoors and keep that leash attached to a member of your family...when he starts looking for a place to go, he'll pull the leash and with it, your attention back to him...it will make things go MUCH faster, trust me. If he's hitting the bell already, that's good news! Keep it up.

  • You're expecting too much.

I'm willing to bet you were in diapers for a while after you were born, right? Why is that? Because you had very little sphincter control and could not control your bladdar and bowels. That's what you're dealing with here....a baby.

Take the dog out at regularly hourly intervals, praise and reward him every time he eliminates outside. Don't worry about the bell right now...just use the same door to take him out every time.

EDIT: Your friend has no clue what she's talking about. Take the dog out every hour, praise and reward when he potties outside, and clean all indoor accidents with an enzymatic cleanser that eliminates his scent. Then, try to be patient. It's not an overnight thing.
