Are some Atheists more godless than others like some Christians are more pious than others?

  • If so, why do so many of them claim that they are all homogenous in their beliefs? Are they afraid that other people's versions of "there is no such thing as god" might be vastly different than their own?


  • I think everyone is a little different. I know some atheists wont celebrate holidays that are traditionally religious but i still do.

    There are people who don't believe in God, but there are others who don't believe in goodness in general.

  • All Atheists are godless. There are no degrees. There are no gods, period.


  • the only belief we all share is that there is no god (or gods). it the very definition of being atheist- lack of belief in any deity! apart from that, it's mostly non-atheists who say we all believe this, or we all support that.


  • the definition of atheism is a lack of belief in god. that's a definitive statement. if an "atheist" claims to not believe in god except when...is by definition NOT an atheist. so i have to answer that all true atheists do not believe in god. we all share that same idea. other than that....i don't claim to be the same or different from anyone else

  • Most atheists just claim that the only thing they share is the lack of belief in a god or gods. Even in making that statement, there are large variances, so I'm rather puzzled as to why you would think that atheism is homogeneous.

    As to your other point, how do you get more godless, than not believing in a god? Some might be more militant about it but we are all godless.

    I had no idea there were degrees or levels of godlessness.

    I am an atheist = I do NOT believe in the existence of invisible sky critters that swoop about doing mayhem on the innocent ... or anyone else.

    Stephen F. Roberts: I contend we are both atheists, I just believe in one fewer god than you do. When you understand why you dismiss all the other possible gods, you will understand why I dismiss yours.
